Paul Lewis practiced as an RICS Building Surveyor for 40 years, specialising in the investigation of historic buildings in Cumbria and the North Pennines. His presentation will explore how the history, geology and land uses of the region differ from valley to valley, resulting in distinctive changes in the form and character of buildings within the landscape.

Having never lived south of the River Tees or west of the Cocker, Paul said,

“Other than a short period for education, I have spent my life absorbing the beauty of our northern buildings and landscapes, developing a deep appreciation of how the centuries have moulded them into what we can now see. These valleys and fells have become part of me.”
