Although they are pretty well extinct now, a number of culinary traditions with Norse origins survived in the Lake Counties until the middle of the twentieth century. This is particularly true of local flatbreads made from oats and barley.

Local food historian, Ivan Day, will discuss the linguistic vapour trails embedded in the Cumberland/ Westmorland dialect that indicate how some of these foods were formerly important staples in both rural communities and towns in our corner of North-West of England. Ivan will also enlighten us to parallels with foods that have survived in Scandinavia, but no longer favoured here.
